We regret to inform you that this Saturday’s (11th May) workshop in Brisbane, and next Sunday’s (19th May) workshop on the Sunshine Coast with Nicole Foss have both been cancelled.

If you have already purchased a ticket for either workshop please take note of the instructions below:

The Sustainability Skillshare on the Sunshine Coast is on Sunday 19th – next weekend, so here are a few things you will need to know if you are planning to attend:

The skillshare will provide opportunities for learning in more depth and connecting with like and unlike-minds in order to focus on strategies for sustainability that we can implement in our own lives and communities. Workshops will be hands-on, so come expecting to participate, not just listen!

Workshops at this skillshare day will be delivered and facilitated by Nicole Foss, Ben Pennings of Generation Alpha, and Kari McGregor of Sustainability Showcase. For the full skillshare day program click here.

Lunch to suit a range of dietary requirements will be provided (included in ticket price), and caffeinated beverages will be free-flowing all day!

Take the next step in your sustainability journey and join us at the Nambour Greens’ Office on Sunday 19th May (address and map on website). If you need city-centre parking please note that there is parking within a few minutes’ walking distance, although we don’t know of anywhere in/near the CBD that doesn’t charge.

Tickets are now available for online purchase only. Please note that the minimum number of attendees for the Skillshare is 15, and the maximum is 30. Only advance bookings are available as our venue capacity is limited, and we need to know numbers in advance for catering. Ticketing will be closed on Saturday 18th.

Now that the Strategies for Sustainability tour is finished and we have a little free time on our hands, the Sustainability Showcase team are gradually gathering together all of the material from the amazing presentations that have punctuated this ambitious tour.

Please check out the presentations gallery on our website for uploaded slideshows and transcripts of the Strategies for Sustainability presentations. We are updating as we go, so if you don’t see a presentation you’ve been dying to get your hands on please do bear with us over the next week or so! Photographic and film footage will also be available soon!

Please note that we do not have access to all presentations for reasons particular to the presenters, whose wishes we respect. If you do not see material from a presenter whose presentation you greatly enjoyed you may prefer to contact them privately to discuss their work further.

Strategies for Sustainability Brisbane Showcase: Graeme Taylor

Dr Graeme Taylor is the coordinator of BEST Futures and an Adjunct Research Fellow with the Griffith Environmental Futures Centre. His research explores how whole-systems design can be proactively used to solve complex global issues and develop sustainable solutions. A lecturer, writer and speaker, Graeme’s current work focuses on understanding critical trends, timelines and tipping points. He is the author of Evolution’s Edge: The Coming Collapse and Transformation of Our World, which won the 2009 IPPY Gold Medal for the book “most likely to save the planet”.

Graeme presented at the Strategies for Sustainability Brisbane showcase on critical global trends, timelines and tipping points: why we must, can and will create a better world.

Strategies for Sustainability Sunshine Coast Showcase: Richard Mochelle

Richard’s multifaceted background in architecture, environmental design, and futures education later developed into a passion for moral and political philosophy, global ethics, deliberative democracy and whole systems design. His theoretical work on global responsibility and world constitutionalism is applied practically with the engagement of lay groups in future-visioning, invoking the responsibility to undertake highest priority design projects in response to global problems. Richard’s current system design projects include a democratic platform for citizen engagement in world constitutional deliberation; an omni-functional, honorary world service; and a carrying capacity-based, integrated rurban planning system for the post-carbon future.

At the Sunshine Coast Strategies for Sustainability showcase, Richard addressed the question of whether fundamental system change is needed for global sustainability and justice, and what learning steps we must all take.

Folks in Margaret River will have the opportunity to hear from Canadian sustainability, energy and finance expert Nicole Foss in two weeks at an event showcasing strategies for sustainability.

Ms Foss will speak as part of her Australian Strategies for Sustainability tour with Sustainability Showcase. The Margaret River event has been organised by Sustainability Showcase in conjunction with Transition Margaret River, and Stellar Violets, a Manjimup-based organization.

People have already travelled far and wide to hear Nicole speak at the Queensland and New South Wales Showcase events, some even coming from interstate.

The Sustainability Showcase: Strategies for Sustainability event will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at Tingrith Meeting House, 24 Hobson Road, just a few minutes’ drive out of town.

Tickets can be purchased online, or on the door on the day if there are any left.

Nicole will be in Western Australia from Tuesday 30th April until Sunday 12th May, and will be available for interview on most days.

Ms Foss will speak as part of her Australian Strategies for Sustainability tour with Sustainability Showcase. The Perth event has been organised by Sustainability Showcase in conjunction with the Hills Sustainability Group, and other local community organizations will be represented with stalls.

People have already travelled far and wide to hear Nicole speak at the Queensland and New South Wales Showcase events, some even coming from interstate.

“Civilisation is the system that feeds us, houses us, and keeps us safe. It seems to work well, but embedded in it is a deadly flaw.

There is no known system in nature that can expand indefinitely. Many economists live with the fantasy notion of curves on graphs that climb forever, while overlooking the drops on the other side. Somehow we’ve come to believe the bizarre assumption that resources are limitless. It’s hard to know what we’re going to do as cheap oil runs dry, because there’s no obvious alternative. Cheap oil is the foundation of just about everything.

Our guest today is Nicole Foss, who describes herself as a systems analyst. Of all human systems, there are none bigger than this. What are we to do? Is it Big Green Stuff, or something more fundamental?

Along the way, we talk about nuclear power, permaculture, peak finance, and even chickens.”

Folks in Adelaide will have the opportunity to hear from Canadian sustainability, energy and finance expert Nicole Foss in two weeks at an event showcasing strategies for sustainability.

Ms Foss will speak as part of her Australian Strategies for Sustainability tour with Sustainability Showcase. The Adelaide event has been organised by Sustainability Showcase in conjunction with the local branch of SPA (Sustainable Population Australia), and other local community organizations will be represented with stalls.

People have already travelled far and wide to hear Nicole speak at the Queensland and New South Wales Showcase events, some even coming from interstate.

Other guest presentations at the Adelaide Showcase include alternatives to the disastrous paradigm of endless growth (Assoc. Prof. Philip Lawn), facing up to what we have to do to arrest SA’s chronic biodiversity decline (Assoc. Prof David Paton), and an exciting new vision for Adelaide on 2 wheels instead of 4 (Jeremy Miller).

The Sustainability Showcase: Strategies for Sustainability event will be held on Saturday, April 27th from 9:00am at the Bradley Forum, Hawke Centre, University of South Australia City West Campus.
